**In Loving Memory of Brian Scott Yates**

Brian Scott Yates, 48, formerly of Herrin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He will be deeply missed by his three beloved children, Gavin Scott Yates of Anna, Kendal Nicole Yates, and Brayden Tyler Yates of Herrin, who were the light of his life. Brian was married to his devoted wife, Julie Brown, on June 15, 2013, and they shared countless cherished moments together in Carterville.

Born on August 3, 1976, in Murphysboro, Brian was the proud son of Dale and Diana Yates of Herrin. He built a successful career as a top salesperson at Stovesand Kia in Carbondale, where he enjoyed connecting with customers and nurturing lasting relationships year after year.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Brian devoted much of his time attending and coaching his children's sports teams, most recently with the Thrillbillies 16U baseball team, where he inspired not only his kids but many others with his enthusiasm and dedication. Brian's spirit was undoubtedly ignited through his love of sports, which flourished during his own high school years as a multi-sport athlete at Herrin High School. A highlight of his athletic career came in 1994 when his team advanced to the Class A “Sweet Sixteen” and he proudly placed second in the IHSA 3-point showdown.

Beyond his professional and athletic endeavors, Brian had a passion for grilling, often taking on the role of the "master griller" at gatherings with family and friends. His culinary skills shone at several barbecue contests where he celebrated triumphs and shared laughter with those he loved. His legacy of joyous cooking lives on in the hearts of all who enjoyed a “Brian Yates special” at Polar Whip during his high school years.

In addition to his children and wife, Brian is survived by his loving parents, Dale and Diana Yates; his sister, Faith Basolo, along with her children, Ava and Keaton Basolo of Cambria; his godparents, James and Pat Reid of Carterville; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and step-children, including Caleb Snyder (Marie), Dalton Brown (Abby), and Dustin Brown, as well as his grandson, Noah Snyder. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willard and Anna Faye Holden of Carterville, and Wilburn and Ruby G. Yates of Cobden; his aunt Elizabeth Curtsinger; cousin Scott Cavins Holden; and brother-in-law Mark Basolo.

A funeral service to honor Brian's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Bruce Peffer. Pallbearers will be, Gavin Yates, Brayden Yates, Danny Allen, Jamie Reed, Matt Shackleton, Jason Spicer and Jason Fisher.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Herrin High School Athletic Department" for an athletic scholarship in Brian's memory, which will be established at a later date. Brian's warmth, joy, and unwavering love for his family and friends will always be remembered and celebrated.
