General Jackson “Jack” Elliott, III Herrin General Jackson “Jack” Elliott, III passed away surrounded by family, Tuesday, Dec. 26,2017 at the Illinois Veterans Home of Anna. He was born October 6, 1944 in California to General Jackson Elliott, II and Dorothy (Hindman) Elliott. Jack had five children. General Jackson “Jackie” Elliott, IV, Michael (Tami) Thomas, Kim (Jim) Sullivan, Kevin (Christy) Frey, and Joshua (Kara) Elliott. He leaves his brothers, Doug (Doris)Elliott of Energy, George Elliott of Stockton, CA, Jerry (Arlene) Elliott of Herrin, sisters Deanie (Clyde) Dillman of Goreville, Rosamary Robinson of Herrin, ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Richard, his sister Diane Woodcock, brother in law Charles Robinson, and sister in law Francis Elliott. Jack join the U.S. Navy at 17 years old and served on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam Era. The Enterprise was the longest naval ship and first nuclear powered aircraft carrier in the world. After his service in the navy, Jack worked for McCree Roofing, Williamson Coal Company, and retired from Marion Toyota. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Illinois Veterans Home of Anna for their unfailing compassion and care of Jack. A graveside memorial will be held at a later date.
