Herrin- Maurice Gale Chapman of Herrin passed away April 2, 2021 at his home he was 85 . He was born in Pinckneyville Ill, December 28, 1935 to Wilbur Chapman and Stella (Hicks) Chapman Addison. He married Carolyn (Seiler) Allois on May 27, 1960. He was a 1953 graduate of Herrin High school. Gale enlisted in the Army Oct 1955 and served in Korea, he served his country honorably. He was of the baptist faith and was baptized at the Herrin First Baptist Church in March of 1955. He retired from General Dynamics in 2000 after 35 years. He loved visiting Branson Mo. with his wife and going to see all the shows. He was a handyman fixing anything his children and grandchildren asked of him. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughters Rhonda and Dave Shoemake of Herrin, Lisa and Jesse Miranda of Marion and one son Kevin Chapman of Walnut Creek, CA, grandsons, Chad and Jen Shoemake, Todd and Christy Shoemake, Ryan and Amanda Rodgers. Other survivors include great grandchildren Tatum, Bailey, Haylie, Aly and Jackson, one sister Deanna Stratton of Cave Spring, AR. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating at the Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin. Visitation will also be Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Van Natta Funeral Home with burial in the Herrin City Cemetery. Military rites will be preformed by the funeral ritual team from Herrin American Legion, Herrin V.F.W and Carterville V.F.W and the United States Army funeral honor guard.
