It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Rosalie Lombardo Rounds, a cherished soul who left this world peacefully at her home in Herrin on January 13, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on March 20, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Lena (Lamatina) Lombardo. Her warmth and kindness were evident to all who knew her.
Rosalie was devoted to her family, especially her loving husband, Jeff Rounds, who survives her. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, including their three wonderful children: John and his wife Christy Cox of Herrin; Pamela Borders of Herrin; and Tabatha Rounds and her husband Eddie of Decatur, Illinois. Rosalie's legacy continues through her seven grandchildren—Kyle and his wife Michaela of Makanda, Kaitlyn Cox of West Frankfort, Tanisha Rayford of Decatur, Kody Long of Decatur, Brennan Cox of Herrin, and Brady and Brisdon Quaglia, both of Herrin—as well as nine great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
Rosalie leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories filled with laughter and love. She was an avid bowler, a true animal lover, and enjoyed the thrill of bingo nights. Her career as an administrator at a nursing home in West Frankfort showcased her caring nature and dedication to helping others. She was also a proud member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin and the Daughters of Isabella, where her spirit and faith shone brightly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Billy Howell, embracing them again in eternal peace.
A visitation in honor of Rosalie will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM, officiated by Father Mark Reyling. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM at San Carlo Cemetery, where we will lay her to rest surrounded by love.
As we remember Rosalie, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with compassion, laughter, and love—qualities that will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
